Modak

About the Recipe

A modak is a symbol of spiritual knowledge and means “small piece of bliss”. Modak is considered to be the favourite sweet of the Hindu deity, Ganesha. The ingredients, preparation, and cooking methods vary according to regions.  Make this easy and healthier modak recipe and store it in a container lined with Oddy Ecobake. Oddy Ecobake is non-greasy and keeps the modak fresh for many days.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups deskinned chana dal
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup ghee
  • 1/4th cup milk powder
  • Dry fruits chopped
  • ½ tbsp cardamom powder

Directions

  • Take deskinned chana dal and grind it. Remove and sieve to get a smooth powder. In a Kadai add chana dal powder and roast for 3 mins, then add 1 tbsp ghee and mix well. Again add 2 tbsp ghee, mix and roast the chana dal powder. Roast for 12-15 mins and remove from heat.
  • Add cardamom powder, milk powder, dry fruits, powdered sugar and mix well when hot. Add the remaining ghee and mix well. Cover it with lid and let it cool for some time.
  • Once cooled, take the modak making mould and add our modak mixture. Make all the modaks by filling the mould. Keep the modak in Oddy Ecobake sheets to prevent it from sticking the plate. Oddy Ecobake is non-greasy and also a healthier option.
  • We can also line the container with Oddy Ecobake and store our modaks. Oddy Ecobake helps to keep the modaks fresh and tasty for longer.
