Bombay Ice Halwa or Mahim Halwa

About the Recipe

A popular sweet delicacy which originated from Mumbai or specifically from Mahim. The recipe is extremely simple to make and is mainly prepared from corn flour or semolina mixture.

Ingredients

 

  • Ghee - half a cup
  • Flour - 1 cup
  • Sugar - half a cup
  • Water - half a cup
  • Saffron
  • Edible colour
  • Kewra Essence
  • Cardamom pods
  • Dry fruits

Directions

 

  • Heat half a cup of ghee and one cup of flour in a pan and fry the flour on low flame for about 8 minutes.
  • Now in another pan, heat half a cup of sugar and half a cup of water.
  • Slow down the gas and keep stirring until the sugar syrup boils. It will take 5 minutes to make the sugar syrup.
  • Heat the flour mixture again and turn off the gas and add sugar syrup to this mixture and keep mixing.
  • Cut and then keep these pieces to dry for 20 minutes on Oddy Uniwraps paper foil. It won't stick and also it is reusable. Can also be used for storing halwa for longer intervals.
  • Mahim Halwa is ready to eat.
