Crispy Masala Puri

About the Recipe

There is nothing better than a tasty, crispy, simple, and easy Maharashtrian snack like masala puri. Served with tea, these deep fried puris are a kid’s favourite homemade snack. It is easy to make masala puri since it is made with whole wheat flour and regular spices. I have used Oddy Ecobake to keep rolled out puris. Since Oddy Ecobake is non-sticky and grease-proof, masala puri comes out without any hassle before frying.

Ingredients

  • Oddy Ecobake
  • Wheat flour 4 cups
  • Sorghum 3 cups
  • Gram flour 3/4th cup
  • Sesame seeds ½ cup
  • Carrom seeds ½ cup
  • Coriander powder 3 tbsp
  • Chilli powder 5-6 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 3-4 tbsp
  • Salt 5-6 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves chopped 1 cup
  • Crushed garlic 30-40
  • Hot oil 1 cup
  • Water as required

Directions

  • In a dish add wheat flour, sorghum, gram flour, sesame seeds, carrom seeds and mix well. Add coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric, salt, coriander leaves, crushed garlic and mix well.
  • Add hot oil and mix with a spoon. Now start adding water little by little and make a smooth dough. Make small balls from the dough as shown.
  • Use Oddy Ecobake to roll the puris in the rolling pan. Oddy Ecobake is non-sticky and grease-proof, perfect for rolling chapati and puris. The dough comes out clean without sticking on Oddy Ecobake.
  • Roll into a thin puri. Add oil in a kadai and once the oil is hot, fry our puris. Make sure the puris are well fried on both sides. Cook the puri in medium flame only, or else it will turn soft later. Our crispy masala puri is ready.
