About the Recipe

A very special dish from Maharashtra known as Spicy Puri. Made with some basic ingredients these puris can be enjoyed as a hot snack in the evening. Ingredients

  • Chillies 10-12 nos.
  • Garlic pods 7-8 nos.
  • Ginger 1 small piece
  • Carom seeds 1 tbs
  • Jeera 1 tbsp
  • 3 cups wheat flour
  • ¼ gram flour
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • Salt as required
  • Coriander leaves chopped
  • Water as required
  • Oil for deep frying

Directions

  • In a mixer jar add chillies, garlic, ginger, carom seeds and jeera. Make it into a rough paste.
  • To make the dough in a dish add wheat flour, gram flour, turmeric and salt. Add the prepared mixture, coriander leaves and make it into a smooth dough. Add a little oil and keep the dough for resting
  • Now make the dough into small balls and roll with a rolling pin as we make for chapatis. You can make the puris thin, in this case the puri will become crisp when fried, or you can make thick puris which will turn out soft like chapatis after frying.
  • Roll it out and make perfect round shapes with a bowl or a lid. Keep these puri rolls in Oddy uniwraps paper foil. Oddy uniwraps paper foil helps in keeping the puri dough fresh and is a healthier alternative than newspapers. These wraps are also reusable.
  • Add oil in a pan for deep frying. Once the oil is hot, add the puris and cook nicely on both sides. Once done remove form the pan and enjoy hot spicy puris as an evening snack
