Puran Poli

About the Recipe

Puran poli is a popular Maharashtrian recipe. It is a sweet flatbread stuffed with a sweet lentil filling made from Bengal gram and jaggery. You can pack and store the puran poli in Oddy uniwraps. This helps in keeping the puran fresh and tasty for longer hours.

Ingredients

 

  • ½ kg- bengal gram
  • ½ kg jaggery
  • 300 gms- wheat flour
  • 150 gms-all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • Salt as required
  • Cardamon nutmeg powder- 2 tsp
  • Dry ginger powder- 1 tsp
  • oil to knead
  • ghee to roast

Directions

 

  • Wash the dal 2-3 times and soak for 2 hours. Pressure cook the dal for 3 whistles with a tsp of salt and oil. In a bowl add wheat flour, all-purpose flour, salt, turmeric powder, oil and mix well. The dough should be soft. Soft dough will make soft and delicious puran poli. Add water little by little and make the dough. Add oil whenever needed to make the dough.
  • Sieve the dal to remove water from it. In a Kadai add the dal and smash it with a spatula. Add jaggery, cardamom nutmeg powder and dry ginger powder. Cook the mixture till jaggery melts completely. And also, till all the water evaporates and the mixture becomes thick.
  • You can additionally strain the mixture through sieve to make the puram smooth and thick. Make the puran into big ladoo shapes.
  • Roll the dough and keep the filling of puran inside. Add flour if needed and roll into medium sized chapati shape and cook in low to medium flame. Cook on both sides and add ghee.
  • Keep the done puran poli in oddy uniwraps brown paper. Oddy uniwraps is eco-friendly and grease proof. You can also pack the rest of the puran poli in Oddy Uniwraps to keep it fresh for longer hours.
