Steamed Sweet Dumplings or Kozhukattai Recipe

About the Recipe

Kozhukattai, or steamed sweet dumplings, are a traditional South Indian recipe. It is made with rice flour, jaggery, and ghee. It is a very healthy recipe as it is steamed food and you need not add sugar to it. The Ecobake cooking paper tray helps in steaming the dumplings and makes it easy to remove the dumplings from the vessel without being sticky.

Ingredients

 

  • 1.5 cups Jaggery & 1.5 cups water
  • 1.5 cups roasted urad dal flour
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder & Ghee - 3 to 4 tbsp
  • 1/4 cup mashed moong dal & 1/2 cup grated coconut

Directions

 

  • Prepare jaggery syrup by dissolving jaggery and water in a pan. Strain the jaggery water to remove any impurities present in it.
  • Add mashed moong dal, cardamom powder, grated coconut and urad dal flour to the boiling jaggery syrup.
  • Add ghee to the mixture and combine everything well to form the dough. Let the dough cool down, add some ghee, and mix the dough again.
  • Take a small portion of it and form a shape as shown. Keep these dumplings in a perforated vessel by lining it with an Ecobake cooking paper tray.
  • Steam the dumplings by keeping the vessel in a deep-bottomed vessel with water in it. Once the dumplings are cooked well, transfer them to a plate and enjoy.
