About the Recipe
Muthiya is a fish shaped dumpling, which is a traditional and famous street food in Gujarat. The term Muthiya is derived from the word “muthi” which means fist- the gripping action of our hands. Muthiya is a steamed dish which makes it an absolute healthy snack to have. It can be made in a variety of ways with leafy veggies or bottle gourd. Today I am making it with loni and methi leaves. Use Oddy Ecobake Non-stick liners to steam the Muthiyas.

Ingredients
- Oddy Ecobake Non-stick liners
- Loni leaves chopped finely 250 gms
- Methi leaves 1 cup
- Coriander leaves chopped ½ cup
- Rice and chana dal mixture 2 cups
- Bhakri powder 1 ½ cup
- Gram flour ½ cup
- Curd 1 cup
- Ginger chili paste 2 tbsp
- Lemon juice 2 tbsp
- Powdered sugar 3 tbsp
- Turmeric powder 1/4th tsp
- Salt as required
- Coriander powder 1 tbsp
- Cumin powder 1 tbsp
- Garam masala 1 ½ tbsp
- Oil 4 tbsp
- White sesame seeds 3-4 tbsp
- Eno 2 packets
- Mustard seeds 1 tsp
- Cumin 1 tsp
- Curry leaves 8-10
- Sesame seeds 2 tbsp
Directions
- In a dish add methi, loni and coriander leaves chopped. Add rice and chana dal mixture, bakri powder, gram flour, curd, ginger chili paste, lemon juice, powdered sugar.
- Add turmeric powder, salt, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, oil, white sesame seeds, and eno. Add a little water once you add eno to activate the process of eno.
- Bind the mixture well. Add a little water or curd if needed and make a smooth dough. Line steaming plate with Oddy Ecobake non-stick liners. Make shapes from hand as shown ad place in the steaming plate. Leave some space between each muthiya as they will swell while cooking.
- Pre heat a kadai with water and wire stand. Place the steaming plate and cook for 20-30 mins. Once cooked remove from heat and immediately separate each muthiya or else they will get attached.
- Once cooled cut the muthiya into pieces. For tempering add oil in a kadai. Then add mustard seeds, cumin, curry leaves and sesame seeds. Saute for 2 mins and add the chopped muthiya. Coat well with the tempering and saute for 3-4 mins and switch off the gas. Our authentic muthiya is ready.
