Bagels without Baking Powder

About the Recipe

A bagel is a bread product from Jewish communities in Poland. It is traditionally shaped by hand into the form of a ring from the yeasted dough. It is perfect to serve as a snack. The Oddy Ecobake cooking paper is used to bake the bagels.

Ingredients

 

  • All Purpose Flour-3 cup & Dry yeast-1.5 tsp
  • Salt-2 tsp & Golden syrup or sugar-1 tbsp
  • Warm water-1 cup & Sesame seeds-1/4 cup
  • Poppy seeds-1/4 cup & Granulated Onion-1/4 cup
  • Sea salt flakes as needed & Caraway Seeds-3 tbsp
  • Water for boiling, Treacle- 4 tbsp & Baking soda-1 tbsp

Directions

 

  • Take warm water, golden syrup, and yeast to the warm water. Leave to activate for 5 minutes. Now add in salt and flour and mix to form a dough. Knead for 5 minutes. Place it in a bowl, leave it to rise for 2 hours.
  • Now take the dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each ball into a rope-like shape, bring it together, seal it well, and leave it in the fridge for at least 1 hour. Mix together the bagel seasoning. Line the baking tray with Oddy Ecobake paper.
  • Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Bring the water to a boil, add the sugar and baking soda, and mix well. Boil for 1 minute. Now take the bagel from the fridge 15 minutes before poaching.
  • Drop the bagel in hot water mixed with treacle and baking soda, poach for 30 seconds, flip over, and cook for another 30 seconds. Drain it and coat it in the bagel seasoning. Coat on both sides. Arrange it on a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes.
