Ingredients

  • 1 cup corn flour
  • 2 cups water
  • 3/4th cup water
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • 2-3 drops yellow food color
  • Dry fruits
  • Oddy Ecobake Brown

Directions

  • In a bowl mix corn flour and 1 cup water. Mix well to avoid any lumps. Again add 1 cup water and make a slurry corn flour mixture. In a kadai add sugar and 3/4th cup water and once the sugar melts completely add the slurry corn flour mixture.
  • Keep on stirring to avoid formation of any lumps. After 3-5 mins add 1 tbsp of ghee and mix till all the ghee completely binds with the mixture. Once this is done again add 1 tbsp of ghee and mix till it gets properly mixed with the mixture. Keep doing this until all the ghee is used. And then keep on stirring the halwa on low flame.
  • Add some lemon juice to prevent the sugar from turning into crystals. Cook for 10-5 mins by stirring continuously. The halwa will start releasing the ghee from the mixture. This is the time when our halwa is cooked perfectly. Check for the consistency.
  • Halwa should be soft, little bit sticky and transparent. Add nuts of your choice and switch off the flame. Immediately remove the ghee from halwa and transfer it into a rectangular container lined with Oddy Ecobake Brown. Oddy Ecobake Brown is non sticky and hence do not need to grease the sheet.
  • Oddy Ecobake Brown will help in hassle-free demolding of our Halwa. Add the Halwa mixture and tap it to set properly. Do not refrigerate. Remove after the halwa is completely cooled. And cut it into equal sizes and serve. Our Karachi halwa is ready to be relished.
