About the Recipe
Kara kadubu or khara kadubu is prepared using chana dal and urad dal in this simple recipe. It is a spicy and tasty steamed dumplings prepared during Ganesha festival. Ecobake helps in getting perfect Kadubus without any greasing and no need of cleaning afterwards.

Ingredients
- For Chana Dal Stuffed Spicy Kadubu- Chana Dal - 1 Glass (100 ml ) - Soaked for 3 hours, Red Chillies - 2 Nos. Green Chillies - 3 Nos., Ginger - 1 Inch, Salt To Taste and Hing - 1/4 Pinch
- For Urad Dal Stuffed Spicy Kadubu- Urad Dal - 1 Glass (100 ml ) - Soaked for 3 hours, Red Chillies - 2 Nos., Green Chillies - 3 Nos., Ginger - 1 Inch, Salt To Taste and Hing - 1/4 Pinch
Directions
- Soak channa dal and urad dal separately for at least 3 hours. Drain the water completely after it gets soaked well.
- For preparing channa dal masala: firstly, in a mixer jar, add green chillies, ginger and red chillies and grind it to a coarse paste without adding water. To the same jar, add soaked chana dal and salt. Grind it to little coarse paste.
- For preparing urad dal masala: firstly, in a mixer jar, add green chillies, ginger and red chillies and grind it to a coarse paste without adding water. To the same jar, add soaked urad dal and salt to taste then grind it to little coarse paste.
- Make small dumplings of these chana dal and urad dal masala, steam in idli cooker for 5 minutes. Once it is cooked well, lightly crumble it and keep it aside
- In a pan, add 1 tbsp of oil, mustard seeds, jeera and curry leaves and add this seasoning to both channa dal and urad dal masala. Mix it well.
- Take rice dough and Flatten it using Oddy Ecobake as per your desired size. Place the Masala inside and fold it, slowly peel the Ecobake and use the same Ecobake for preparing next kadubu.
- Like this prepare both urad dal and channa dal kadubus. Steam it for 5 mins and tasty khaara/spicy kadubu is ready to eat.
